Selection policy
- We will always pick the best team first
- Every player will have a team role, agreed with the captains and to be actively used in matches
- Selection will be based on form, known ability, conduct and attitude.
- Balanced sides will be selected, in line with agreed player roles.
- Where a player is picked in a different team from usual they will be played in their normal positions.
- Non-payment of subscriptions by the end of may will mean non-selection
- Late drop outs may well result in be dropped a team lower for the following week
- Holiday breaks may result in one game in a lower side on return
- Selections will be available to players on tuesday morning via the club web site and posting at jcg – voice, e-mail or text alerts will only be available by agreement with team captains.
- Saturday league sides (in order) are the main priority, with Sunday league, knock-outs and friendlies following in order
- Inappropriate behaviour (on or off the field) is not acceptable at any time and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
- The selection committee reserves the right to vary the above if circumstances dictate.
The cricket committee promise to you
- We aim to give you the very best cricketing experience each week and full value for your subscription.
- Captains will discuss and agree with you your role in the side at the start of the season and will review it and form on a weekly basis.
- Players will be picked in their agreed role and utilised there as fully as possible.
- Youth team players (when selected) will be picked on merit, played in their role and fully utilised in that agreed role.
- Selections will be posted on the acc web site and at jcg noticeboard each tuesday morning.
- Promotions and demotions will be informed to you personally (with reasons) by the senior (de-) selecting captain
- If required each player will have a “mentor” to help with performance & form
- Structured training and coaching will be available for all players.
- We intend to be fair to everyone at all times
- Grievances can (and should) be made via the team captain, team vice captain, or club captain at any time
Your commitment to Alton CC
- Meet your commitment – don’t drop out after wednesday evening.
- Notify availability to the selection committee before 19.30 monday, including any need to leave early, “play at home” etc
- Be responsible for checking your selection on tuesdays and advise any non availablility to captains at the earliest oportunity.
- Agree with your captain your role in the team.
- Practice your agreed role to the best of your ability / availability.
- Be on time – arrivals at the game should be a minimum of 30 minutes before the start (60 minutes for the 1st xi) – changed and ready to play.
- Play where selected to the best of your ability
- Help your captain on match days, without being asked!!
- Players in grade 1 are expected to play at least twice per week and in grade 2 at least once per week on average.
- Always uphold “the spirit of cricket”, good manners and our club, on and off the field.
