2nd XI off the mark against Midhurst

Alton 2nd XI got their first league win of the season on Saturday as they cruised past Midhurst.

Young overseas talent Brad Kneebone saw the Brewers home with a fine 76 not out, as Alton chased down Midhurst’s 164 for the loss of just 2 wickets.

Teenage New Zealander Brad Kneebone, who made a match winning 76 not out for Alton II’s at Midhurst.

Kneebone was supported by Andy Pearce (36*) after Jack Penn (26) got the Brewers off to a flyer before being comically run-out.

Earlier in the day, Alton’s bowlers had kept a tight reign on the home batsmen. Tom Hughes’ patient 61 was the only innings of note as Alton gave nothing away.

The wickets were shared around, with good spells in particular from off-spinner Tom Paul (1-20) and young seamers Ian Carpenter (1-33) and Toby Salmon (1-25). Pearce (3-13) mopped up the tail with the help of three run-outs and Alton’s all round performance was rewarded with a maximum point haul.
