2nd XI defeat St Cross
Alton 2nd XI bagged their second successive victory with a fine all-round performance against St Cross.
After being inserted on a green-tinged but good surface, Alton’s progress was steady if not spectacular. Brad Kneebone (53) completed another half-century, with support from Howard Gadsby (27).
However, Alton’s middle order wobbled and the total had to be boosted by composed lower order batting from Lee Partner (28) and skipper Alex Hughes (20) before both departed to run-outs. The home side’s innings was also boosted by a generous 47 extras, taking the total to 230.
Alton’s bowlers made the perfect start with Ian Carpenter taking a wicket with his first ball. Two more followed quickly before James Brooke played some nice attacking strokes.
However, the introduction of Tom Paul (2-27) put the brakes on and regular wickets from all the bowlers including Toby Salmon (3-41) saw St Cross all out for 160.
