Umpires’ courses

Now that the 2015 season has finished John Gray, the local umpire training officer, has asked me to let everyone know about the umpiring courses that will be held over the autumn and winter. He needs to know numbers for the Level 1A course ASAP so please email him if you are interested in attending the course which starts on Tuesday 27th October.
If you are interested in receiving further details about the Level 1 course starting in january please let me know and I will pass your details on to him. The I’Anson League are committed to supporting the training of new umpires wanting to come into the Pool so funding to pay course fees will be available in exchange for a commitment to stand in I’Anson matches in the following season
Level 1A and Refresher Course
This course is designed for umpires who have completed the Level 1 Course (or equivalent) and want to extend their knowledge of umpiring. It also acts as a stepping stone for any umpires who want to further their umpiring career and progress to Level 2 in the future. It concentrates on running the game and covers how to handle the vagaries that occur during a game and gives a better understanding of fieldcraft. It is a qualification in its own right.
It is also recommended that practicing umpires should attend a refresher course every 3 years and this course will give any umpire who has not been to any training for a while a good insight into how the Laws are implemented. I know those who have attended over the last couple of years have found it most useful.
This course starts on Tuesday 27th October at Frensham Cricket Club and will last for 6 weeks and completing on 1st December. Start time 7.30pm. Cost will be £35 to cover all expenses and handouts. Membership of the ECBACO is a pre-requisite for attending.
Those umpires interested please contact John Gray at jgray21 – at – tiscali.co.uk as soon as possible so the necessary materials can be ordered from the ECB.
Level 1 Course
This will be held from the 12th January for 8 weeks at Frensham Cricket Club and hopefully many of the Home Umpires will continue their development on this course. I will be sending out more detailed information later in the autumn but if there are any known candidates already then please let John know as well so he can compile a candidate list.
