Alton sign overseas ace

Daniel HuttonAlton have signed Victorian Premier League opening batsman Daniel Hutton for next season

Hutton (26) is an established first grade all-rounder playing for Melbourne University in the Victorian Premier Cricket League. A former Victorian Under-19 representative, Hutton opens the batting and bowls off-spin for the University.

He moved to his current club in 2010/11, following four seasons with rival club Camberwell Magpies. Between 2005/06 and 2009/10, he featured in 70 matches across the grades scoring 1,214 runs at 26.68 and taken 34 wickets at 33.41. He broke into the first grade in 2007/08 and played 7 matches in the top flight.

Since his move to University, he has featured predominantly in the Premier 1sts scoring 2,016 runs at 24 and taken 76 wickets at 27.62. In recent years, he has cemented his spot in University’s top side and currently sits just outside the top 10 run and wicket-takers for the club since records began back in 2000/01. In 43 first grade matches, he has scored 1,062 runs at 23.09 and taken 30 wickets at 24.97, including best performances of 123 and 5/22 during his prolific 2013/14 season (588 runs at 30.95 and 13 wickets at 25.08).

Hutton is a proven all-rounder in the VCA – regarded as one of, if not the strongest club competition in world cricket. He has now set his sights on playing league once again in 2016, following a stint with Scarcroft in Yorkshire’s Wetherby League back in 2011 (421 runs at 24.76 and 33 wickets at 16.03). Hutton also holds Bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Primary Education to compliment his playing skills.

He also boasts a level two Australian coaching accreditation, which is recognised as a UKCC Level 3 equivalent.
