Paul & Ballinger star as Alton face RAM head on!

Due to a home fixture clash the 2nd XI game was moved to a Sunday as they hosted RAM CC. Alton won the toss and batted first, a decision that looked to have backfired, Alton lost 2 early wickets as they fell to 3 for 2. Things got worse as a beamer struck experienced batsman Ryan Hale in the helmet a cut to the head meant he had to retire hurt. Nidesh Gonella also fell cheaply as the Brewers slipped to 17 for 3 effectively 4. This brought together Ellis Ballinger and Joe Paul. The pair set about rebuilding the innings and they did just that in some style. The pair added 182 unbeaten runs to see the home side post what was at one stage an unlikely 199 for 3. Paul ended just short of three figures as he made a fantastic 94 with young Ballinger making a fine 68.

Alton opened up the bowling with the experienced bowling of Andy Tapp and Julian Ballinger. With the T20 game ending early at the other end Michael Salmon went to substitute field for the injured Hale. No sooner as he had tucked his shirt in he was involved in the action taking a smart catch in close off Ballinger to remove Khan for 9 and give Alton the early breakthrough, RAM 16 for 1. From this point the game remained in the balance as the visitors moved to 135 for 5. Nathan Vincent picking up 3 for 40. Julian Ballinger returned to the attack to make a key double breakthrough as Ram slipped to 161 for 7. Ellis Ballinger was the brought into the attack after his exploits with the bat and In one eventful over picked up 2 for 6 as the brewers closed in on victory. Julian Ballinger picked up the last to end with figures of 4 for 23 as the visitors were bowled out for 182 to give Alton victory by 17 runs.
