The last time Alton played St Cross it was a very one-sided affair with the Brewers convincingly beaten. Alton ladies were keen that history did not repeat itself! Meeting an hour early for a warm-up and net session seemed to work well as the Brewers were lively in the field after losing the toss and being given the new ball. Abi and Gemma bowled tight lines and removed their county team-mates Finty and Alex in the opening spells. Amelia then picked up a wicket which brought Nicole B (53*) to the crease for St Cross. She batted superbly, initially with Maisie (30), the other opener, and then with the tail to manage St Cross to 144 – which was probably a par score. Great bowling from the wicket keeping pairing of Amelia and Julia (6 wickets between them)!!
The Alton innings started a mirror image with the County pair of Abi and Gemma being removed by their county team mates Alex and PJ! When Julia and Gemma H followed in quick succession it was always going to be about whether Amelia could repeat what Nicole had done for St Cross. The middle and lower order did a superb job batting with Amelia as she produced a faultless masterclass of an innings, seeing the Brewers home with an unbeaten 83 in 113 balls. Great credit to Sarah C, Sara H Sarah M, Nic and Catherine as they all stuck it out with Amelia and made St Cross work for each of their wickets. The plaudits though should go to Amelia who batted from the 4th over to see the Brewers home for their second win of the season.
Well played Ladies - let us make it 3-0 next week on our trip to the sea side!
