Alton 4s needed to win big against Liphook and hope that at least one of three other results went their way. After winning the toss Alton quickly had the visitors on the ropes at 16/4, with a brace of wickets apiece for Alex Stratford (3/30) and Harry Lynn (2/16).

David Northcroft and Julian Blanks then steadied the innings with a half-century partnership before they both fell to brilliant catches from Stephen Ball, the best one off his own bowling. Nate Vincent cleaned up the tail with 3 wickets in as many overs.

The home side got off to a flying start with Cam Rhodes (45) and Rich Housley (27*) putting on 60 for the first wicket. When Rhodes was out, Alex Housley joined his dad and, knowing every point to be vital, made sure of 29 points, chasing down the 93 runs required without losing any further wickets.

There was then a nervous wait for other results.

With the games at Kingsley and Fernhurst poised to go against the Brewers, the only remaining hope was that Frensham were unable to secure 6 points. After nearly an hour news came through that Chiddingfold had reached their target of 157 for the loss of 7 wickets meaning the Brewers leap-frogged Frensham by a solitary point.

Both Woodstreet Village and Wrecclesham duly won (Wrecclesham off the last ball against Kingsley) meaning that Frensham, who started the day in 6th place, took the final relegation slot and the Brewers survive in I’Anson Div 5!
