Asked to bat first, Alton were led by an excellent 68 from Stuart McCandlish, who struck seven fours and a six to anchor the innings. Useful contributions from Alex McCandlish (17) and Ben Mexon (13), together with 38 extras, helped the visitors post 180 all out from 40.4 overs.

Elliot Ansell was the pick of the Haslemere attack with 3 for 19, while Will Tebbett, Jamie Bacon and Harry Parker each claimed two wickets.
Haslemere made a positive start through Jack Hamilton's rapid 39 before Ben Haworth's composed 48 appeared to put the home side in control. However, Alton fought back superbly as Ben Heffernan ripped through the middle order with an outstanding spell of 5 for 24, reducing Haslemere from a comfortable position to 180 for nine.

Kiran Varma also claimed two wickets and Alex McCandlish and Ben Mexon chipped in with one apiece, but Haslemere's last-wicket pair held their nerve to edge over the line, reaching 181 for nine with just one wicket to spare.

Despite the defeat, Alton could take plenty of encouragement from a spirited bowling display that came agonisingly close to pulling off a memorable victory.
