Sebi Stars at Wood Street Village

If ever there was a toss to win then on a drying day after two days of rain on an uncovered wicket – this was it. Skipper Green did his job and called correctly and unsurprisingly asked the hosts to bat first. Trim (11-2-36-2) and Freeman (9-1-32-2) opened the bowling and after an initial assault by the Woodbridge skipper quickly checked the scoring rate, using the unpredictable pitch to great effect. Trim’s opening wicket, caught by the ultimate 3D cricketer Steve Ball, was followed up by two from Freeman. Alton then started to execute some control on the game and the introduction of Ethan Streek (9.1-0-27-3) imposed that further. Streek was unplayable by the lower to middle order and he quickly picked up three wickets, including an excellent caught and bowled. Young George Litton (6-0-31-1) kept up the on the pressure at the other end causing Noble to play on. The Wood Street Village innings now relied on their No. 3 Ian Bow who had played superbly to this point whist wickets were falling all around him. It took a miscommunication between Bow and Binfield and then a sharp piece of fielding from Green and Van Der Linde to dismiss Bow for an excellent 45. Bramah Jnr then completed the innings with another run out to dismiss the hosts for 152.
The Alton innings started off at a very steady pace with Bramah Snr outscoring Heffernan. Both looked fairly solid but pressure was building with some old fashioned line and length bowling from Dave Grey. Green joined Heffernan when Bramah was caught for 32, and when Heffernan was dismissed for 8 the visitors still needed 104 for victory. Bramah Jnr joined his skipper at the crease and started playing some shots – some huge shots! Alton ended up chasing down the target with 8 overs to spare – amazingly only 6 runs were scored from the other end as Bramah ended the day on 93* in an innings that comprised 8x6’s and 9x4’s. After the exhibition of batting the Brewers won 22-2 and tightened their grip on third place.
