After Saturday’s loss Alton had the chance to put that behind them as they hosted premier league opposition in the second round of the T20 cup.

Lymington were not at full strength, but still had some dangerous players in their ranks. The visitors elected to bowl first and things did not go the Brewers way as they crashed to 19 for 4. It was down to Myers and Gonella to rebuild and avoid Alton’s blushes. Rebuild they did and a fantastic partnership of 70 took the score to 89 before Gonella was removed for 42 off just 27 balls including 5 fours and one six.

Michael Heffernan joined Myers as the pair looked to add further impetus to the innings. Heffernan struck 41 off 23 balls including 3 fours and 2 sixes in a cameo that put Alton into a good position. When he fell caught on the fence Alton were now 158 for 6. Myers had past 50 in a fantastic innings that kept Alton’s innings together, some magnificent ball striking and placement saw the Brewers captain make 60 not out off 45 balls including 6 fours and 1 six. Bash Walters added a late maximum as Alton closed on 176 for 6 off their 20 overs. A total that looked a long way off at 19 for 4.

Lymington knew a good start would be key but some tight bowling from Bash Walters and Michael Salmon immediately put pressure on the visitors. Walters removed the dangerous Crabb early as Lymington fell to 8 for 1. Overseas Du Plooy looked dangerous but on shot too many saw Michael Salmon get his man for 19. The score now 33 for 2. Freddie Egleston joined the attack and picked up 2 wickets the visitors had moved to 72 for 4. Opener Rodgers was still there but when he was removed for 45 by South the wheels came off for the visitors. 90 for 5 was soon 103 all out. South picking up a remarkable 5 for 4 off just 1.2 overs.

Alton running out comfortable winners in the end by 73 runs as the move to the next round. Before that they will host the Vitality Club T20 Area Finals on Sunday at Jubilee. Alton will play the Sussex T20 champions Eastbourne at 10am with Tunbridge Wells taking on Reigate Priory in the Kent v Sussex tie. Winners of each will go head to head in a 4pm final.
