Despite winning the toss and electing to bowl on a bowler friendly surface Alton failed to take advantage as they gave the St Cross third string 57 extras including 45 wides. Other than the extras only Kevin Neave really hurt the Brewers as he made 82 with no other batter making it past 20. Alton missing their chance to remove Neave as chances were put down. With Alton’s bowlers struggling to find their lines skipper Postles handed the ball to Australian Ryan Hale, Hale known for his hard hitting batting was the unlikely hero with the ball picking up 3 for 25 off 7.2 overs including the wicket of Neave. Young Wilf Bridger took 2 for 35 off 6 overs and Nathan Vincent 2 for 37 off his 8. It was a tale of what might have been as Alton let St Cross get to a competitive 213 as they were all out in the final over of the reduced 40 overs.

Alton needed a good start but unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals as the Brewers slipped to 60 for 5. Joe Paul making 21 but it was Matt Crane And Wilf Bridger who managed to steady the ship as the pair added 61 for the 6th wicket. Crane fell for a well made 48 and young Wilf Bridger managed to make his way to his maiden second XI league 50. Bridger ended with 54 but Alton were bundled out for 159 losing by 54 runs. St Cross only giving away 5 extras.
