Alton 2XI started the season this weekend with a convincing win against Hursely Park following last year's promotion.
Losing the toss, Alton were put into bat, but we're happy to set a total on a good looking track, however they were pegged back early losing some key wickets taking them to 66-3. However opener Ethan Van Der Linde (73) had stayed calm and crucially anchored the innings, so that when joined by Joey Paul (71) they were able to kick on. A brilliant partnership of 118 pushed the brewers towards 200, and despite some late wickets they were able to post a strong total of 232.
Alton were happy at the break, but on a good deck it was going to take a quality bowling performance to defend. Immediately Alton's openers took some key early breakthroughs to dent their chase. A rebuild began to edge them back to in the game, but a tight spell Kartik Tank (3-36) tore through the middle order and put Alton firmly in control. Wilf Bridger (3-22) was then able to cleanly mop up the tail as Alton ended with a resounding 101 run win.
A clinical performance from the team started the season perfectly, and creates the perfect base to build into the season as they host Parley next week.
