Hoping to carry through some momentum from last week's win, Alton 2XI hosted Gosport at the JCG. In spite of missing much of the normal bowling lineup, the team was confident after winning the toss and bowling first.

A couple of early wickets from the new opening partnership, including a maiden 2s wicket for Harry Cavell (4-61) helped the brewers, but Gosport were able to carry on building and put together some good partnerships and really get their run rate moving. At 150-3 at the halfway stage they looked set for a huge score, but Andy Pearce (3-31) had other ideas. His skillful flight and guile was able to really build the pressure, and supported from the other end was able to really dry up the rate. A great 20 over spell put Alton firmly back in the game, and despite a late Gosport flurry, some strong death bowling from Cavell was able to keep them mostly in check.

Chasing 239, Alton felt in the game at the halfway stage on a fairly good batting track, but the Gosport overseas quickly dented those ambitions. A fiery spell of fast bowling restricted Alton to 32-4, and when followed by some calamitous running, sank Alton's innings.

A disappointing chase lost Alton the game, and they will be looking to amend that next week and get back to winning ways.
